What to expect from our 32-session Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy program?

SCIP Education Director Galia Tyano Ronen offers an overview of the SCIP structure as well as a felt-sense perspective of the SCIP community. You’ll hear about…

  • The dynamic online learning platform that includes recorded webinars, an outstanding resource library, and community discussion board that you can interact with your peers, group leaders and experts from any time zone
  • Weekly, live community engagement sessions implementing case studies and Q&A to explore the application of self-compassion to participant clinical specialties including depression, anxiety, shame, eating disorders, addictions, kids, teens, families, and more
  • Opening and closing community retreats (online) that will give you tools and support to prevent burnout and learn how to care for yourself while you are caring for others

“As human beings who practice psychotherapy, listening with our minds and our hearts to clients, sometimes for many hours, our needs are really specific. When we meet our clients, as one human being to another human being, we meet someone who is bringing their suffering to us. Every time, this is a new soul who is there hoping we can help them. We need to be very flexible in the way we treat their pain. So, we begin by bringing self-compassion to ourselves—we hold ourselves with kindness. And at the same time, we want to do the same thing with our clients. With SCIP, we built a model that is flexible and adaptable to your unique ways of being and working that meets your needs and your clients’ needs with loving, connected presence.

Program Prerequisites

Admission is by application, and all applicants must:

Have attended the full Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program (8 Week or 5-Day Intensive format, in-person or online prior to starting the program). In order to establish a firm foundation of immersion in self-compassion and personal practice, this is a firm requirement for entry into the Certification program.

Be a licensed or supervised mental health professional with active liability insurance. Psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, licensed mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, are invited to apply, as are students enrolled in a graduate psychotherapy training program. Other professionals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Participants are expected to commit themselves to daily meditation practice for the duration of the course. This is essential for the understanding of how meditation practice works and its application in psychotherapy and caregiving. This commitment will be supported by ongoing instruction and through regular consultation with experienced MSC teachers.

The online “live” program will begin with a two-day virtual retreat October 15-16, 2022 and continue weekly on Wednesdays, beginning October 2022. All sessions will be recorded for those who are unable to attend in real-time, although attendance will be kept at the live sessions and all program participants must attend 80% of the sessions to formally complete the course and receive Continuing Education credit.
